Westwind Hotel
Placencia
Hotel Description
At Westwind, the carefully designed building ensures that each room
catches the breeze and has a view of the sea. Each standard room has a
private bath, hot water, refrigerator and reading lamp. All units have
air conditioning. The central lobby is tastefully decorated with local
woods and artwork, providing a spacious area for socializing or reading
one of the paperbacks from the library. The beachfront palapa with
hammocks also makes a relaxing hang-out spot. Whether you want a little
interaction or a lot, Westwind has ample space for both.
History & Owners George Westby?s family vacationed in Placencia when he was growing up.
He went into the hotel business in 1990 when he designed and built this
hotel himself, although he laughs and says that it took him 7 years to
build. He cleverly named the accommodation by combining ?West," from his
last name and ?wind? because of the strong wind that comes from the east,
but travels west. Even the paint is ?Westwind? blue. George is a
character, a talker, an innovative person and a great storyteller. Lisa
Westby adds an extra touch to the hotel with her love of plants and her
easy-going personality. She is cultivating a tropical garden of
vegetables and orchids in back of the hotel. She is also a
wonderfully-creative cook!
