Tropicool Hotel
San Ignacio Town, Cayo
Hotel Description
Tropicool has an ?away? feeling even though it is only one block from the
center of town. The property, which stretches between Burns Avenue and
West Street, is dotted with flowering plants and fruit trees--guava,
banana, plantain, lime, custard apple and more--which add shade and
coolness to the place. There are rooms with shared bathrooms and outside
there are three individual cabins (in the town!) with private bath and
cable TV, offering a little more privacy. Everything is meticulously
clean?from the outdoor sitting area to the bathrooms. The family-run
hotel is well-established and includes a nicely stocked gift shop.
Inside the hotel there is a bulletin board with helpful information on
tours and activities in the area.
History & Owners Andrew Wollacott was in the British military, stationed in Belize during
the 1970s when he met Doris (at a disco!) and later they married and
stayed in Belize. Together they have two children of their own and also
serve as foster parents. They are easy-going, friendly and are dedicated
to their family business. When they were thinking of opening the hotel in
1995, they were discussing the possible names with their niece who came
up with the name ?Tropicool? and the name stuck.
