Shirley's Guest House
Caye Caulker
Hotel Description
Shirley?s Guest House offers clean, quiet, beachfront accommodations on
the less-developed end of the island that borders the nature reserve.
The buildings on the property are well spaced giving each room a view of
the sea. The yard has many flowers and shade trees that miraculously
survived the last hurricane. Accommodations include one cabin and a
duplex that houses two rooms. Each of these three units has a private
bath and one double bed. Two additional rooms share a bath and have one
double bed and one twin bed each. All rooms have fans and refrigerators.
The verandas off of each room, the lounge area in the yard and the
private dock offer inviting spaces to hang out, enjoy sunrises, tropical
breezes and the creation of the island.
History & Owners Shirley Young, originally from Canada, has lived on Caye Caulker since
1971. She opened the guesthouse in 1980 and has hosted thousands of
guests over the years. After this many years in the hotel business, she
has it down pat and is a ?no-nonsense? woman, meaning that she has
established rates and regulations for guests that do not bend. In 2003,
Shirley?s was featured in an article in New York Times on the ?Frugal
Traveler? (May 11, 2003).
