History & Owners The Changs came to Belize from China in the 1960's and made their home in Belize City. They opened the hotel in 1991 when there were only a few hotels in the city. The Chang's son, Wilfredo, now runs the hotel along with being involved in several other family businesses. The hotel was named "The Royal Orchid" because the orchid is the national flower of Belize.
