Lebeha Cabins
Hopkins Village, Stann Creek District
Hotel Description
We have three cabanas sharing a large deck. The largest cabana "Honeymoon suite" has a thatch roof. Screened-in-verandah and private bath. The two smaller cabanas have a shared bath. All three cabanas have mosquito nets and ceiling fans. A family or group can occupy two or all three cabanas as a unit, allowing for privacy in the rooms and a comfortable common area on the deck.
We offer visitors from all over the world the opportunity to live amongst people still living in a unique culture that may not be with us for another generation. Unlike theme parks or museums, at Lebeha Cabins you are in the culture.
History & Owners Lebeha is Garifuna for "the end", and this was the end of the village in 1992 when Jabbar first operated a restaurant and bar featuring Garifuna drumming at this location. In 2003 the drumming center was opened in the building that housed the original Lebeha. In 2006 the three cabanas were built.
Jabbar was born and raised in Hopkins village and was one of a group of young men playing Garifuna music in the 1980's. When he opened Lebeha in 1992 it was Hopkins first restaurant/bar and the original Punta Bar. Jabbar's Canadian partner, Dorothy, moved to Belize in 2001 and helped Jabbar to establish the drumming center and continues to assist with the cabana rentals.
