La Enramada Cabanas
Orange Walk Town, Orange Walk
Hotel Description
La Enramada Cabanas are situated in a quiet neighborhood off one of the
main roads of town. Each stand-alone cement cabana has a TV,
air-conditioning and a private, fully-tiled bathroom. One of the most
unique features of this hotel is the adaptation of the typical style of
beds used by the ancient Mayas. The mattress is placed on a permanent,
solid, unshakable foundation, making for an extremely comfortable night's
sleep. Outside, Mr. Crawford has recycled tires and made them into
planters full of brightly-colored flowers. There are also fruit trees
and other vegetation throughout the property. La Enramada is most famous
for it?s Ceviche Bar and Restaurant located at the front of the property
that is open daily for lunch and dinner. With a simple menu of shrimp
ceviche, chips and drinks, locals and visitors alike are drawn to enjoy
this favorite dish of Northern Belize.
History & Owners The name ?La Enramada? captured Mr. Crawford on one of his trips abroad
and he decided to use the name for his own hotel. He built the
accommodation in the early 1990?s as a business for his family. Mr.
Hilton Crawford, originally from Crooked Tree Village, Belize District,
is a prime example of a person you can ?take out of the village but can?t
take the village out of him?. Although he has lived outside of the
village for over 30 years, he still has the spirit of a person who deeply
cares about the community, respects people and especially youth. He has
served in the police force, worked in the Belize Sugar Industry and is a
builder. He is passionate about working with the youth of the community
and is developing apprenticeship programs for troubled youth. He lives
by his motto, ?Try to do your best all the time in whatever you do.?

Location & Directions #5 Cristock Street, Orange Walk Town Located on the west side of the main road through Orange Walk, it is easy to find if you stick to these directions. From the town center, travel south on the main road like you are exiting town. Pass Landy's & Sons and the new Santiago Castillo building. There is a bus stop on the right (west). Turn at this street and take the second right (north). La Enramada will be on the left side of the road.
If you don't follow these directions, people trying to find this location will wind through scenic streets and see all of the neighborhoods on this side of town before being able to find the cabanas. Everyone knows where the restaurant is but you can enjoy asking 4 or 5 people along various streets how to get there and they will give you thorough directions in Spanish and Creole with lots of arm gestures.
