Cosmos Camping & Cabanas
San Ignacio Town, Cayo
Hotel Description
Cosmos Camping is situated on 30 acres of land bordering the Macal River.
It boasts an orange orchard along with some forested areas and several
notably tall trees. The compound of the property has vast areas of green
grass, royal and travelers palm trees and areas of cascading
bougainvillea vines that burst into color. Four units have recently
been constructed making the property more of a hotel than a campground.
Guests can feel safe with a night-watchmen and resident caretaker. The
owners are known for their fresh-squeezed orange juice and their
friendliness. If you have time for us, we have time for you.
History & Owners Mr. Galvez, the owner, says that he fell into the hotel business by
accident. His neighbors, a Turkish & Finnish couple, ran a campground
and when they left the country Mr. Galvez continued to run the business.
The name "Cosmos", meaning "universe," seemed to appropriately describe
the area in all of its vast beauty. Mr. Galvez has been involved in
numerous endeavors throughout his life teaching, starting the lotto and
bringing Western Union are just a few of his accomplishments. He
recently co-authored "The Father of the Nation", the biography of the
Right Honorable George Price (the Prime Minister who led Belize to
Independence in 1981). After a brief hiatus when Mr. Galvez was working
on some of these other projects, he has put new energy into the property
and is looking forward to hosting guests from around the world. He is
also a District Tourism Officer for the Belize Tourism Board. His
brother, Selvin "Bing" Tzib, runs a tailor shop making customized
clothing. So, if you want a "Belize outfit" you have found the right
place. He also happens to be a great cook!

Location & Directions #15 Branch Mouth Road, San Ignacio Town Cosmos Camping is within the town limits but it's like being out of town. From the Hawkesworth Bridge, travel down Burns Avenue (which is one-way) to the 5-point intersection, veer right onto Hudson Street. Pass by the taxi area, the bus area and market. Follow the road approximately quarter mile. Midway, the road becomes gravel and is named the "Branch Mouth Road". You will see the sign for Cosmos not far down on the left. The actual property is a bit further down the road, but stop and check-in at the tailor shop.
