History & Owners Construction of Cohune Palms began in 2001 in Bullet Tree Falls on land that has been in the Waight family for generations. It officially opened in 2003 and now has a gift shop, an art workshop and a restaurant. Mike, a native Belizean, is an accomplished artist, craftsman, and musician. He participates in the various regional art festivals and is particularly known for his work with cohune jewelry. Bevin is from Boise, Idaho. She is a graduate of Wellesley College in Boston and University of Chicago (MA in Anthropology). She originally came to Belize for archaeology in the 90's and has studied in Armenia, Peru and Honduras among other places.

Music, Art & Interesting People: Mike Waight Music, Arts & Crafts
Mike is an accomplished artist specializing in using natural seeds, nuts and shells from Bullet Tree to make his jewelry. The cohune nut features prominently in his work but he also uses shell, cow horn and different types of wood. He is also an accomplished drummer--playing the congo and jimbey drums or just about any other kind of drum he can find!
