Bird's Eye View Lodge

Crooked Tree Village, Belize District

Hotel Description
Bird's Eye View Lodge is a Belizean family-owned lodge situated in the heart of the Crooked Tree Sanctuary. The lodge consists of two different buildings on the edge of the lagoon. The main lodge has a restaurant/bar, office, gift shop and sitting areas. The palapas at the edge of the waterfront make an ideal place for birding or just relaxing. The rooms are extremely clean, pleasantly furnished, and have optional AC. The staff and local tour guides eagerly await the opportunity to share a memorable experience with their guests.

History & Owners
The hotel got the name from it's prime birding location. Verna Gillett grew up in Crooked Tree Village and still considers it her home. She is a vivacious, generous, wise woman who has built this business from scratch. She makes homemade jams and jellies to sell in the gift shop and is always looking to grow and improve on what she is already doing. The hotel started out with 5 rooms in 1993 and has expanded to 18 rooms.

Location & Directions
Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, Crooked Tree Village
Crooked Tree is 23 miles from the International Airport and 33 miles from Belize City. Travel on the Northern Highway until you reach mile 30, the milepost is on the right side of the road. You will start to see signs that say Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary. There is a big green and white sign that comes almost 1/2 way over the highway, just follow the arrows and turn left onto a dirt road that is approximately 3 miles long. At the entrance of the village you will see a building, the Audubon Center, you will need to stop in and pay US$ 4.00 per person entrance fee. We have signs right through the village that will lead you right in front of the lodge. If you feel unsure, just ask the villagers, they will be happy to assist you.
